MA2 Brodsky was attached to the Navy Region Southwest Security Detachment while he was serving as a bomb-sniffing K-9 handler in Afghanistan. During one of a patrol on July 7, his unit came under heavy enemy fire. Petty Officer Brodsky rushed to a nearby truck to place his K-9 partner, Jackson, inside, and while running back towards the gunfire he stepped on an I.E.D. Unfortunately, he was not able to recover from his injuries and succumbed to them on July 21.
His parents were able to see him in Germany prior to his passing. He was 33.
